feel the rush.
the secret to conquering fear
Hey bro,
Today's ah-ha moment is very close to my heart.
I have been a skateboarder since I was 10 years old.
Partly because it's dangerous,
And also partly because those 90s movies always made skaters look so cool. (even though the jocks always got the girls in real life. Thanks, Hollywood.)
In skateboarding, I always liked to skate in the streets.
Essentially, you ride around town looking for cool spots to loiter.
But at its base level, street skating is just anything that's not at the skate park.
For example:
I LOVED gapping down stairs.
Idk why, maybe I am a psycho.
But if there is one cardinal rule when gapping down stairs.
it's never, EVER, think about crashing.
Because if you do, you'll get scared mid-air and kick out thinking breaking your ankles is better than breaking your board.
This is a BAD idea.
And it applies to real life in a very real way.
If you imagine things going wrong, they're more likely to happen.
In skateboarding, you need to COMPLETELY ignore the idea that you could possibly wipe out.
It sounds delusional,
But it's better than snapping your ankle in 3 places and getting rushed to the hospital. (which happened to my friend)
So where am I going with this?
Be delusional,
Because imagining worst-case scenarios,
Only creates fear.
And that guy will kill more dreams than coffee ever could.
So next time you're "street skating" in life.
See yourself stomping the gap.
And ignore everything else.
Stay gnarly.
